More good news for BJCT - 12:07 PM ET 2/22/10 | BusinessWire Cyto Pulse Sciences, a leading producer of electric field based, intradermal DNA Vaccine delivery systems, today announced approval from the Swedish Medical Products Agency to conduct a phase I clinical trial evaluating an HIV/DNA vaccine in collaboration with the Karolinska Institutet (KI) and the Swedish Institute for Infectious Disease Control (SMI). The vaccine will be delivered to healthy volunteers by ZetaJet(R), a needle-free injection system (Bioject Medical Technologies Inc.) in combination with the intradermal electroporation system, Derma Vax(TM) (Cyto Pulse). The study will be sponsored by SMI and conducted at Sodersjukhuset, KI, by Principal Investigator Bo Hejdeman, M.D., Ph.D. The multivalent HIV vaccine was developed jointly by SMI and KI. The combination of intradermal injection by ZetaJet(R) and electroporation by Derma Vax(TM) is thought to potentiate and broaden the response of the vaccine. Clinical Investigator and Professor of Dermatovenerology, Eric Sandstrom, M.D., Ph.D. says: "Our studies have shown that low dose (1mg) intradermal Bioject DNA injections induce stronger and broader priming to HIV antigens than 'standard' (4mg) intramuscular priming. Dermal electroporation of HIV/DNA may further increase this effect." Britta Wahren, M.D., Ph.D., Professor in Clinical Virology at KI/SMI and responsible for the HIV vaccine constructs, says: "We expect that this type of delivery for genetic vaccines will strongly enhance the effect of the immunogen. It is likely that the combined delivery of vaccine genes by both the ZetaJet and electroporation can lead to a lower effective dose of vaccine DNA." The Derma Vax(TM) delivery system is designed to be safe, effective and highly tolerable for the patient. "We are optimistic the treatment will be effective and therefore have signed a letter of intent to participate in a follow-up Phase II trial in Tanzania and Mozambique," said Derin Walters, Cyto Pulse CEO. |

From BioMed this morning - Bioject, Inc., (OTC BB: BJCT.OB) a Portland OR-based drug delivery company, soared today after a device they developed with Merial, a world-leading animal health company, has gained full-licensure from the U.S. Department of Agriculture for ONCEPT Canine Melanoma Vaccine. ONCEPT is a breakthrough vaccine indicated for aiding in extending survival of dogs with stage II or stage III oral canine melanoma, a common yet deadly form of cancer in dogs. ONCEPT is the first and only USDA-approved, therapeutic vaccine for the treatment of cancer in either animals or humans The USDA issued a conditional U.S. Veterinary Biological Product License for ONCEPT in 2007. During the period of conditional licensure, ONCEPT was available to veterinary oncologists as Merial conducted additional research to further support the safety and efficacy of the vaccine. The results of that research led to the full licensure of ONCEPT. Merial obtained licensing rights from Memorial Sloan-Kettering and Dr. Philip Bergman, and, using their access to and experience with DNA vaccine technology licensed from Vical Incorporated (Nasdaq:VICL), completed the industrialization and regulatory requirements for full licensure. The vaccine will be administered via a Canine Transdermal Device, which delivers the vaccine without the use of a needle. Bioject jumped 71% or 10 cents to close at 24 cents on the day. Volume was 8 times the average daily. Vical was up 25 cents or 7.84% to close at $3.44. |

Great news release for Bioject this morning. Here is a key element in the release: "The approval of ONCEPT is a milestone in the cancer vaccine field and a significant advancement for our DNA delivery technology platform," said Vijay B. Samant, Vical's President and Chief Executive Officer. "Therapeutic vaccines -- the holy grail of vaccinology -- are delivered after disease onset to impede disease progress for the patient's benefit. We believe this achievement is a major step toward the initial approvals of therapeutic vaccines for humans." |

For those who fancy a bit of light reading: SEC Filings For those who prefer nasty looking charts: Discouraging Chart (Where the gobblegobble about dividends comes from I have no idea) Put me down as "skeptical" if you will. Are we sure this shouldn't be filed under "GTZ" instead? |

Bioject - symbol BJCT - makes needle-free injectors for both humans and animals. Has teamed up with big players such as Merial - Vical to get this into the markets. Needle free injection is projected to see huge growth in next few years, and this company should be a primary beneficiary. Set up interplay agreement with MPI Research this month, which should be quite fruitful. Here is a look at their technology - http://www.bioject.com/technology.html |
