OTOH, and FWIW, one of the guys on CNBC's Fast Money said that RFMD has no reason for being in business, or something to that effect... (Message edited by public_heel on January 12, 2008) |

RFMD stock plunged today but: .....On the bright side, Morgan Keegan & Company analyst Harsh Kumar upgraded the company to "Outperform" from "Market Perform" based on the lower share price. Kumar said it will take roughly one financial quarter to correct the company's excess component inventory, and said he believed strong growth will resume in the June quarter. Kumar also said the company's share price was "very compelling". |

The Greensboro-based chip maker also posted record revenue of $238.3 million, up about 50 percent from the year before, according to the company. It was the fifth consecutive quarter of revenue growth for RF Micro (NASDAQ: RFMD - News), and the company said it expected revenue growth of between 1 percent and 5 percent in the current quarter. CEO Bob Bruggeworth said the bulk of the growth came from the company's largest established customers and was spread across all three business units: cellular, wireless connectivity and infrastructure |

.P. Morgan Securities maintained a "neutral" rating on RF Micro Devices (nasdaq: RFMD - news - people ) after the company spoke at the JPMorgan Technology and Telecom Conference yesterday. RF Micro reiterated earnings and gross margin growth guidance for the June quarter, all in line with the research firm's estimates. "The company stated orders are actually ahead of the June 2004 quarter, and we would note June 2004 revenue was $165.8 million, well above the current guidance of roughly $155.0 million. Strength has been driven by share gains in the Edge end market with its Polaris chipset," the research firm said. RF Micro sees the wireless end market as positioned for a "normal" growth year. J.P. Morgan said "our checks indicate the component inventory correction in the wireless end market appears to be largely over, as order rates from Nokia (nyse: NOK - news - people ) and Motorola (nyse: MOT - news - people ) appear to be solid so far during the second quarter." The research firm concluded that, "While we believe the company should continue to gain share in 2005, we remain cautious due to the multitude of projects the company is undergoing in order to rebuild its gross margins." |

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- E-mail | Print | Comments | Request Reprints | E-Mail Newsletters | RSS 'Worst Is Past' For RF Micro Devices 11.16.04, 9:22 AM ET Tear Sheet | Chart | News Banc of America Securities raised its rating on RF Micro Devices (nasdaq: RFMD - news - people ) to "neutral" from "sell" and raised the target price to $7.50 from $4.30. "We believe the worst is past for RF Micro Devices," Banc of America said. "[The] current December quarter remains on track to our [revenue] estimates of $165 million due to strength at Nokia (nyse: NOK - news - people )." The research firm said potential Bluetooth design wins could act as a positive catalyst for the stock. "We expect Bluetooth to ramp beginning the second quarter of calendar 2005," Banc of America said. It raised the calendar 2005 earnings forecast for RF Micro Devices to 12 cents per share, from 10 cents. "Although we do see some near-term seasonal strength for RF Micro Devices and better than expected design traction for the company's Bluetooth devices," Banc of America said, "we remain concerned about the longer-term design activity for Polaris 2 and, more importantly, the pricing pressures for power amplifiers in 2005." Elsewhere in the semiconductor sector, Banc of America's top picks are Intel (nasdaq: INTC - news - people ) and Texas Instruments (nyse: TXN - news - people ), both rated at "buy" with target prices of $24 each. Its least favorite picks are Advanced Micro Devices (nyse: AMD - news - people ), rated at "sell" with a $14.75 target price, and TriQuint Semiconductor (nasdaq: TQNT - news - people ), rated at "neutral" with a $4.00 target price. |
