Another gainer, OmniVision Technologies Inc., announced a new 3-megapixel image sensor which is based on Wavefront Coding software, a technology that may help focus high resolution images in electronics such as camera phones. JPMorgan analyst Paul Coster said it was potentially good news for the company. "This appears to be a major step forward. OmniVision de-emphasized discussion of this technology in 2006, so either the company has made a technical breakthrough in recent months, or management felt it necessary to shroud the finished product in secrecy for commercial purposes," Coster wrote in a note to investors. Shares of OmniVision, which have traded between $11 and $34.49 over the last 52 weeks, were up $1.02, or 8.5 percent, at $13.09 in afternoon trading on the Nasdaq. |

9:04AM OmniVision tgt raised to $35 from $28 at Amtech (OVTI) 27.09 : Amtech raised their tgt on OVTI to $35 from $28 saying they were pleasantly surprised that a small company like OVTI could penetrate NOK with respectable market share shipping production volumes into the co in C2H:05, which they believe was in the range of 10-15% and could be >15% in C06. They are comfortable with their Jan qtr estimates and are raising their FY07 EPS to $1.58. The firm notes that they are a firm #2 player in the market behind MU, who is limited by wafer capacity allocation, short interest is still relatively high at 23%, and the 3GSM Congress will create additional positive buzz in 2MP and 3MP camera phones. |

They report after the close. Back in June they lowered guidance and lowered expectations for this quarter. I think they may surprise to the upside. I may buy tomorrow just for a trade. |

From the MotleyFool: "If, over time, a couple of investments grow so large as to throw these ratios out of whack, I'm not going to worry about rebalancing right away. The above percentages are just simple guidelines to keep me on track. I'm also not going to have strenuous market cap requirements for each category. I happen to believe that value and income can come in large packages like Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) all the way down to little guys like OmniVision Technologies (Nasdaq: OVTI)." |

What the heck's wrong with OVTI? It's at 15.69. Down .73 yesterday. Having sold a small position at 16.50, I'm thinking of buying it back again. Is there any bad news that I might not be seeing? |

From Forbes: OmniVision Technologies (nasdaq: OVTI - news - people ) will report third-quarter results on Monday. The maker of image sensor chips is expected to report earnings of 27 cents per share on sales of $96 million, essentially flat compared to year-ago earnings of 28 cents per share and $95 million in sales. On Wednesday, Piper Jaffray maintained an "outperform" rating and said OmniVision will be "the primary beneficiary" of the cell phone industry's transition to high-quality camera phones. "While growth in calendar 2005 will likely remain largely driven by the cell phone market, we believe OmniVision has positioned itself longer-term to diversify its revenue stream into additional growth areas, including security and surveillance, gaming applications, even as it now has the opportunity to recapture some share in the digital still camera (DSC) market, with its new CMOS sensor for 5.0-megapixel digital still and video cameras." |

Lemme guess... OVTI does not expense options, right? I think they do. Why all the options? I know they have done a great job but it sure seems like a lot of options given. Seems unusual to me. This is not ABHH and Ken now. IMO something is up. Buy out? Remember in a buy out usually options are restricted stock vest immediately (negotiated) at the buyout price. CC Monday after the close. |

Lemme guess... OVTI does not expense options, right? I don't know what it means, if anything, other than that management is looting the company and the shareholders, and that's so common it isn't even worth mentioning. |
